What is an Eagle Project
About the project
In order to achieve the highest rank in the Scouts of America, the rank of Eagle Scout, It is required that a scout carries out an Eagle project. An Eagle project is a major service and leadership requirement for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. The project requires a scout to plan, organize and lead a service project that benefits a religious institution, school, or community organization. It is designed so a scout can demonstrate leadership, meaning a scout has to take responsibility for organizing the project from start to finish, including identifying a need out in their community, creating a detailed plan, gathering necessary approvals, managing materials and funds, organizing and delegating to volunteers, and ensuring the project is up to the standards the organization expects of them. Overall, the Eagle Scout project serves as a final experience that highlights a scout’s commitment to service and leadership, while making a lasting, positive impact on the community.

Why I chose to build musical playground equipment
Out of all of the possible Eagle Scout project ideas that I could have undertook, I believe that a musical playground like the one I am looking to build is going to benefit this community the most, while also being connected to me and my passions. There are many studies that have concluded that young children, when exposed to music and given to means to create it, develop better social, emotional, and motor skills. Every child should have access to a musical outlet such as this, and that is why I'm choosing to build this equipment. Another reason I wanted to go all in on this project is because I myself have had a deep connection to music, from childhood to now. When I was younger, I was privileged to have full access to creating sound, noise and music. Today I am involved in many different parts of the music program at my high school. As I begin looking at different universities I know that my connection and investment in music can continue there and beyond. Looking back, my opportunity as a young kid directly influenced how my life is now, and how it will continue to play out. If my project can help at least one child discover a passion for music, then it will have been a success.
